dc.description.abstract本文旨在從跨語文、跨國度、跨文化的角度出發,探討夏威夷的華裔美國詩人林永得如何在詩作中挪用/據用中國古典文學的典故,這個翻譯與移植的行為在詩作中的意義,以及這種寫作策略如何建立起林永得這位夏威夷第三代華裔美國詩人的身分。文中指出,發掘林永得詩作裡的中國典故的來源,其主要意義並不是要據以評量他的引文與創作是否道地、忠實於原出處,而是要藉此強調詩人如何運用這些典故來達到特定詩作中的特定目的,進而彰顯其作品的原創性。質言之,過去討論翻譯的人士,往往忽略了其踐行的、開啟的、解放的效應,本文則以仔細的文本分析顯示,林永得以英文創作來挪用、移植、馴化中國古典文學的成分,所產生的效應實超過了任何中文或英文的單語讀者、甚至中英雙語讀者的預料。藉著彰顯被忽略的島嶼(夏威夷)上被忽略的詩人(林永得)作品中被忽略的面向(中文典故),本文得以重探翻譯之多重面向,並重繪華美文學的圖誌。

dc.description.translationabstractFrom an inter-lingual, trans-national, and cross-cultural perspective, this paper tries to explore how Wing Tek Lum appropriates classical Chinese literary sources, to understand the significance of this act of translation and transplantation in Lum’s poetical creation, and to investigate how this writing strategy helps construct his_x000D_ identity as a third-generation Chinese American poet in Hawaii. The discovery of the sources of Lum’s allusions, rather than being used to measure the authenticity of his quotations and writing, serves to highlight Lum’s originality in utilizing these allusions to achieve his specific purposes in particular poems. Furthermore, from the_x000D_ perspective of translation as performative, initiatory, and liberating, this paper_x000D_ demonstrates that Lum’s appropriation, transplantation, and domestication of classical_x000D_ Chinese elements generate effects which are beyond the expectations of monolingual readers, English or Chinese, and even bilingual readers. This paper, therefore, attempts to shed light on a neglected aspect of a neglected poet in a neglected island and, by so doing, helps explore the multiple dimensions of translation and remap_x000D_ Chinese American literature.
