This case study aims to explore Zhang Yuan-Ji's political stands at the historical turning points like the Reformative Movement, the Constitutional Movement, the Revolution of 1911, and the conflicts between the Kuomingtang and the Chinese_x000D_ Communist Party, and to analyze whether these stands are contradictory to each other so as to clarify his historical position. This article starts with historical literature, discussing Zhang Yuan-Ji's points of view and contrasting those views with his actual actions in order to analyze Zhang Yuan-Ji's thinking and basic attitudes toward politics during several important periods._x000D_ This article discovers that after Zhang Yuan-Ji was deposed, he stayed away from official circles and devoted himself to culture and education, trying his best to avoid being involved in Realpolitik. However, this did not decrease his concerns about the domestic political situation. Starting from the failure of reformation to the_x000D_ success of the Revolution of 1911, Zhang Yuan-Ji's key political stand shifted from a_x000D_ gentle and gradual reformist to a revolutionist. After the success of the revolution, his stand shifted back to be gentle again. At his old age, seeing the phenomenon that the people could not live in peace, but instead in corruption, fraudulence and misery due to political turmoil, Zhang Yuan-Ji felt distressed and repeatedly appealed for maintaining peace. Although Zhang Yuan-Ji's political stands changed from time to time, the core of his concerns is the people's well-being all the time. People, the common focus of the traditional "people first" concept and modern "democracy" are his constant priority consideration. This also reflects his belief in patriotism, humanitarianism and nationalism.
