Abstract This report is inspired by our team's own experiences. After one of our members was harassed while out, we realized that harassment in public spaces is widespread for women. However, many remain silent out of fear. Such experiences can lead to long-term anxiety and reduce women's willingness to travel freely, yet existing products still fail to meet real help-seeking needs. This final project for the “Experience and Service Design” course explores how women can protect themselves when facing harassment. Our goal is to use service design to create a clearer and more reliable way to seek help. We conducted in-depth interviews to collect first-hand accounts from women about their real experiences of being approached by strangers while out alone. We also used secondary data analysis to understand the broader context and the limitations of existing solutions. The findings reveal that when confronted with harassment, women commonly face two major dilemmas: (1) having no one nearby who can provide immediate assistance, and (2) wanting to exit the situation safely without escalating conflict. To address these challenges, this report applies service design methods such as contextual inquiry, personas, and user journey mapping. We first defined the core problem: "How might we help women effectively and safely protect themselves when approached by strangers while out alone?" We then carried out divergent and convergent thinking in the design process. Our team developed “SHiEld+”, an integrated service system that combines prevention, real-time response, and post-incident support. We produced a prototype and iterated it through refinement. The final design includes a digital interface featuring voice-based deterrence and route alerts, as well as a physical product that combines a power bank with pepper spray. In addition, we provide a psychological counseling referral service. Together, these components form a women's self-protection solution that offers immediate assistance in outdoor contexts and continued support afterward. We hope this study can offer new design directions for women's self-protection services and serve as a reference for future research and practical applications.
