dc.description.abstractWhile XML has emerged as the de facto standard for data representation and exchange on the World- Wide-Web (WWW), relational databases are widely used in enterprises to support critical business operations. Thus, providing interoperability between relational databases and XML data repositories is a very important issue. In this paper, a mapping dictionary in XML format is proposed to capture the necessary information for resolving representational conflicts between relational and XML schemas. Based on this proposal, relational queries can be transformed to XML queries, so that XML data can be easily accessed in SQL. A prototype is built to validate our idea and demonstrate the feasibility of the mapping dictionary proposal.
