dc.description.abstractIn this paper, we consider wireless data broadcasting as a way of disseminating information to a massive number of clients equipped with battery powered palmtops. Using indexing technique, the clients can selectively tune in at desirable portion of the broadcast and conserve the usage of energy. We review the pervious works for indexing on nonuniform data broadcast in this paper and propose an new indexing scheme, namely, balanced hybrid indexing to improve the performance. To measure the performance of different indexing schemes, we conducted three experiments for performance evaluation. The results show our scheme has better performance in both the average access time and the average tuning time than pervious works.
