dc.description.abstractRFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology is being integrated into a large number of public transportation systems, including air travel. Nevertheless, there are still several issues to be resolved in such RFID-based systems such as security, efficiency, and cost. In this work, we have developed an embedded system prototype of an RFID-based automatic airport baggage handling system using Lego Mindstorm, ARM processor, FPGA, and motors. The prototype shows how to solve several problems, currently encountered in the barcode systems at Taiwan’s CKS international airport, including manual classification into different cabins and low identification rates.
